Dunta Robinson to Kansas City

Dunta RobinsonThe Kansas City Chiefs are blowing up this offseason by announcing some form of major news literally every day since the old regime was tossed out and replaced with the shiny new brass in the front office.

John Dorsey and Andy Reid are proving that they want to win, and they want to win now.  The latest move by the Chiefs is the signing of free agent Dunta Robinson, formerly of the Atlanta Falcons.  Let’s take a look at his career so far.

The 10th overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2004 NFL Draft, he started all 16 games at right cornerback for the Texans his rookie season, recording 87 tackles and six interceptions. During the 2008 season, Robinson became the all-time Texans’ interception leader passing Aaron Glenn with 13 career picks.

In 2009 he was franchised by the Texans.  Upset at receiving the tag, Robinson decided to sit out all of Texans training camp before signing a one-year, $9.957 million tender a week before the 2009 NFL season began.

On March 5, 2010 Robinson was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as an unrestricted free agent.  His contract being 6 years for $54 million with $22.5 million in guaranteed money.

On March 1, 2013, Robinson was released by the Atlanta Falcons.

Enter John Dorsey and Andy Reid.  Due to the fact that Mr. Robinson was cut by his previous team, he did not have to wait until the start of Free Agency (March 12th) in order to sign with a new organization.  The Kansas City Chiefs signed him to a 3-year deal for an undisclosed amount.

My opinion?

I like this move, I think its a significant upgrade over Stanford Routt and Javier Arenas.  I can’t complain too much about Javier because I thought he did a nice job at filling in the position, but I just do not see him as a permanent fix for corner.  With Dunta’s speed and toughness I think he will bring a level of play that the Chiefs defense has lacked for a few years.  He will be a very nice fit opposite the field of Brandon Flowers and I think they will all work together nicely.  Andy Reid and John Dorsey surely have more up their sleeves and I cannot wait to see what exactly it is they have in store, if the past few weeks are any sign of what’s to come, Chiefs Nation, I hope you are buckled up and ready for one heck of a ride!
