OK, so here is a big one Chiefs fans.  For game three of the 2013 NFL regular season the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 19, 2013, at 8:25 PM Eastern Standard Time from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA.  The Chiefs are riding a 2 game regular season win streak that has matched their win record for all of 2012.  The Eagles are sitting at 1 and 1 so far this regular season and have a 7 game losing streak dating back to last season.

The most interesting thing about this game that everyone is talking about is new Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid returning to his previous NFL team’s home stadium so soon after leaving.  This could be an advantage to the Chiefs though.  Think about this, Andy Reid coached most of the players on the Eagles for a number of years.  That being said, Reid has insight into the players on the team with their strengths and weaknesses.  This could play right into the Chiefs’ hands as they may be able to predict what some of the players will do in certain situations.

The question this week will be the Chiefs defense.  They had a great game against the Cowboys and shut them down very efficiently.  The Eagles, on the other hand, are quite different than the two teams the Chiefs have seen this season.  Chip Kelly has been brought in as the Head Coach for the Eagles and, as we all know, he loves a fast paced offense that is a scoring machine.  He is known to have his offense run 15 to 20 more plays than the average team and wearing out the defense as best he can.  There is no doubt Tamba Hali and Dontari Poe will be having a hay-day with the Eagles line, however, the sheer amount of plays the Eagles run is sure to possibly slow them down a bit.  That high speed offense is effective; however, it is also taxing for even the Eagles defense.  If the Eagles offense runs 3 and out then their defense is back on the field in next to no time.

The Chiefs offense will also need to take to the ground on this one.  That way they can ensure the defense gets some good rest before heading back out to deal with the Chip Kelly offense.  Look for Jamaal Charles to get a lot of runs up the middle and around the ends for short yards.  Possibly some short passing to Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery to keep the drives alive.  The offense went a little stagnant on the last game with some short 3plays and out, but all together looked pretty well rounded.  Let’s hope that is not the case with this game or else the defense will be a tired machine and pushing for more offense on the field.

The recognition of Andy Reid coming back to Philly is kind of a toss-up with this game.  Reid was with Philly for 14 seasons and had 140 wins in his time with the team and city.  He made a quarterback that most might remember in Donovan McNabb.  Reid has a rich history in Philly and I expect will be welcomed back with cheers from the true fans who understand he is walking in on hostile territory.

Most analysts have this game going to the Chiefs due to a better defensive strategy and numbers from previous games.  I am jumping on that band wagon and saying it will be the Andy Reid Chiefs victorious over the Chip Kelly Eagles.  Fast offense is great for scoring, but not when put up against a defense that will shut you down before you get the play off.  Look for the Chiefs to leave Philly 3 and 0 for the first time in a long time.
