Seattle Comes to Kansas City

Sunday. It’s the best day of the week, The day we all wait to watch our beloved team take the field and battle for a victory, This week has more hype than most.

Debating on which red item to wear feels different going into week 11. The Chiefs are hosting the Super Bowl champions. To make it sweeter, it’s the same team that temporarily stripped the Chiefs Kingdom of being the loudest outdoor stadium. This is also the first week of the 2014 season that the Seahawks are the underdog. The red we wear today has to be just right.

When the schedules came out, I boldly said, “I can’t wait to watch Kansas City stomp Seattle.” Everyone, even Chiefs fans, laughed at me. I was met with “You know Super Bowl 49 will be a repeat of the teams from 48”, “Seattle is too tough”, or “Kansas City had a fluke last season”. I refused to listen. Chiefs fans always believe, I think it’s part of the Kansas City experience. I believed in my team before the first snap of the season. As we enter week 11, I can proudly say we are second in the AFC West with a 6-3 record playing against a Seattle team that’s second in the NFC West with a record of 6-3. For the first time this season, Seattle is the underdog. I’ll let that simmer.

I know the Chiefs Kingdom has been preparing to be loud enough for the fans watching in Seattle to hear. We are the true 12th man after all. I just want to remind you all to use your diaphragm so you won’t lose your voice tomorrow. Maybe break the record we set against New England. Remember we made it 142.2 decibels.

I can feel the tremors of excitement coming from Arrowhead. Today is the day the Chiefs will beat the Super Bowl champs. This is the game I have been the most excited about all season. Today is the day Kansas City will quiet the haters. We will prove that team that started the season doesn’t exist anymore. We are a contender. We want the postseason. So much that we can taste it.

Wear your red on this frigid November Sunday with confidence. This is the day we have all been waiting to arrive. Let me hear you Kansas City.
