Berry Out for Season

Just when fans were getting used to the idea of having Safety Eric Berry back on the field, he has been lost again. This time he was placed on the NFI, non football illness, list.

Berry expressed feelings of discomfort in his chest on Thursday when the Chiefs played a horrendous game against the Oakland Raiders. After scans and tests it has been determined that Berry has a large mass in his chest. He will be flying to Atlanta to have further testing done. Of these tests, one of them will be for lymphoma.

Berry did release a statement to the fans about his current situation. It reads as follows:

“I am truly thankful for all of the support from my family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the entire Chiefs Kingdom. At first I was in shock with the diagnosis on Saturday and did not even want to miss a game, but I understand that right now I have to concentrate on a new opponent. I have great confidence in the doctors and the plan they are going to put in place for me to win this fight. I believe that I am in God’s hands and I have great peace in that. I know my coaches and teammates will hold things down here the rest of the season and until I am back running out of the tunnel at Arrowhead. I am so thankful and appreciative of being a part of this franchise and playing in front of the best fans in the NFL. I will be back!”

For now, our Kingdom will band together and send love to one of our players going through a difficult time. We can take comfort in knowing that we found a way to win with him on the sideline with his high ankle sprain, and we will find a way to win as he battles this. We have an even more important reason to win now. Every game we will be reminded of his battle. This will ignite our fire and passion again after reeling from an embarrassing lost last Thursday.

As we look on to November 30 when we host the Denver Broncos we know we must win. Not only to prove we can, not to move back into the top of our division, but for a far more passionate reason. We will win for our brother in red. We will leave it all on the field: our love, admiration, determination, and desire. We are all fighting with Berry. Because the Chiefs Kingdom bands together and will face on any opponent as one.
