Yesterday, the NFL released the preseason schedule for all 32 teams. Below is a quick look at the Chiefs’ preseason schedule, along with some other important offseason dates in the next few months. Specific day and time has not yet been set for the preseason games.
Week 1. August 13-17
The Chiefs begin their preseason in Arizona versus the Cardinals in a rematch of the two teams’ 2014 regular season matchup, which the Cardinals won 17-14. This will be the first chance for fans of both teams to see the new free agent additions (along with their new draft picks). For the Chiefs, fans will get their first look at new WR’s Jeremy Maclin and Da’Rick Rogers, S Tyvon Branch, G’s Ben Grubbs and Paul Fanaika and QB Terelle Pryor. For the Cardinals, fans will get to see LB’s LaMarr Woodley and Sean Weatherspoon, DT Corey Peters, and G Mike Iupati.
Week 2. August 20-24
In another rematch from the 2014 regular season (oddly, all 4 of the Chiefs preseason opponents played them in the 2014 regular season), the NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks will visit Arrowhead. The Chiefs won that game 24-20 in Kansas City behind Jamaal Charles’ two touchdowns. The Chiefs have won their past 3 regular season games against the Seahawks, and have won 4 straight regular season games at Arrowhead.
Week 3. August 27-30
The Tennessee Titans make a visit to Arrowhead in week 3 of the preseason, giving the Chiefs a chance for revenge on their opening week loss in 2014. The Chiefs are 3-4 all-time against the Titans, with only one win against them in Kansas City in the regular season. The Titans have the second pick in the NFL draft, and it will be interesting to see who they select.
Week 4. September 3-4
All of the preseason games will occur over Thursday and Friday in week 4 of the preseason (which is Labor Day weekend). The Chiefs will travel across the state to face the St. Louis Rams and their new QB Nick Foles for a chance to maintain their hold on the Governor’s Cup after crushing the Rams in the regular season in 2014.
Other important offseason dates include:
April 20: Offseason workout programs begin
April 30-May 2: NFL Draft will occur
May 8: Rookie mini-camp may be held
Mid-to-late July: Training camp begins
The next few months will be exciting. Go Chiefs!
